stART Something / Arts in Education

Visual artist, Judeth Pekala Hawkins, worked with 4th grade students to design and plant a mandala garden at Locust Grove Elemendary School. Students were studying The Life Cycle of Plants.

stARTSomething is a regional program of the Cultural Alliance of York County. As a PCA/Arts in Education Partner, stARTSomething is dedicated to bringing transformative artist residencies to schools and community organizations in Adams, Fulton, Franklin, and York counties. Artist residencies are custom-designed experiences that integrate arts into the classroom curriculum.

The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) is a state agency charged with the development and promotion of the arts in the Commonwealth. To accomplish its mission, the PCA encourages educational excellence through participation in the creative process in schools and educational settings. Study of the arts provides Pennsylvania’s youth with positive models for teamwork, project management and goal setting, along with opportunities for academic achievement and intellectual and emotional discovery.
