Creative Aging

Creative Aging is the practice of engaging older adults (55+) in participatory, professionally run arts programs with a focus on social engagement and skills mastery. The Creative Aging movement is about providing opportunity for meaningful creative expression through visual, literary and performing arts workshops; it is not about making macaroni necklaces.

  • Teaching artists work with seniors centers and care facilities to design multi-day residencies that engage participants.

  • These residencies tend to attract new people to the center and typically expand participants' social network.

All of our artists have completed the National Center for Creative Aging teaching artist training - so they are prepared to adapt appropriate learning principles for seniors.
